The castle was built of local blue Kurla stone and red laterite stone from the Konkan region to the south. In 1662, after the islands came under the hands of the British, the British East India Company took possession of the castle in 1665. Over the next ten years, they built a defensive structure around the manor. Around the same time, a wall was being built around a new urban centre. The wall was later demolished in 1865 after the city grew rapidly. Fragments of this wall however still exist in some areas.

Gilbert Hill is a 60 m (197 ft) monolith column of black basalt rock in Andheri, in Mumbai, India. The rock has a sheer vertical face and was formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth's clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 65 million years ago. Haji Ali Mosque was built to honour a Muslim merchant and it stands almost 600 yards out at the sea. The spot can be approached by a long causeway which gets submerged during high tides. The tomb was named after Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, who gave up his whole wealth after visiting Mecca. The tomb dates back to 15th century but the dazzling white mosque was built in the year 1940. It was named after Ferozeshah Mehta, who was a famous barrister of the former times. Ferozeshah Mehta Gardens serves as a picturesque retreat for the people of Mumbai. The tomb of the famous Sufi saint Nizam-ud-din Auliya built on the way from Humayun's tomb. Inside the premises of the shrine is a tank which is surrounded by many other tombs. The Jehangir Art Gallery is Mumbai (India)'s most famous art gallery and a tourist attraction. It was founded by Sir Cowasji Jehangir at the urging of K. K. Hebbar and Homi Bhabha. It was built in 1952. Managed by the Bombay Art Society, the entire cost of this mansion was donated by Cowasji Jehangir. This gallery is situated at Kala Ghoda, behind the Prince of Wales Museum, in South Mumbai near the Gateway of India. and has four exhibition halls. The gallery was designed by G.M.Bhuta for G.M. Bhuta and Associates. A mammoth institution in itself, its history is linked with the renaissance of Indian art. The Jogeshwari Caves are some of the earliest buddhist cave temples sculptures located in the Mumbai suburb of Jogeshwari, India. The caves date back to 520 to 550 CE. Kala Ghoda is a precinct or district in South Mumbai, India. The name means Black Horse, a reference to a black stone statue of King Edward VII (as the then Prince of Wales) mounted on a horse. It extends to 3,300 sq m in the most luxurious and posh residential area of the Bollywood city of India. The park was christened after Kamla Nehru, who was the wife of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India. The park is a pleasant place with foliage all around and well-maintained green lawns.
Apart from the striking shoe-shaped structure, it has little to brag of regarding amusement. However, on the whole, Kamla Nehru Park is a nice place to spend sometime away from the hustling city. The Kanheri Caves are a group of rock-cut monuments, located north of Borivali on the western outskirts of Mumbai, India, deep within the green forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Kanheri Caves are signs of Buddhist influence on art and culture in India. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit word Krishnagiri generally meaning black in colour. They were chiseled out of a massive basaltic rock outcropping.
These caves date from 1st century BCE to 9th century CE The earliest are 109 tiny rock-cut cells, carved into the side of a hill. Unlike the elegant splendor of Elephanta Caves nearby, these are spartan and unadorned. Each cave has a stone plinth for a bed. A congregation hall with huge stone pillars contains the stupa, a Buddhist shrine. Farther up the hill are the remains of an ancient water system, canals and cisterns that collected and channeled the rainwater into huge tanks.

Lokhandwala Complex, also known as Lokhandwala is a large residential and commercial area in Andheri, Mumbai, India. It is located approx 5 km from Andheri station (Andheri (w)). Madh Fort (also called Versova Fort) is a small fort in northern Mumbai, India situated at Madh Island. It was built by the Portuguese [1] and lost it in February 1739 during the war against Maratha empire. It is secluded and difficult to reach, about 15 kilometres from Malad. t is situated near Aksa Beach. The fort was built by the Portuguese as a watchtower in the 17th century. It offers a strategic view of the coastline and guards the Marve Creek.

The Mahakali Caves (also known as the Kondivita Caves) are a group of 19 rock-cut monuments built between 1st century BCE and 6th century CE. These Buddhdist monuments, located in the western suburb of Andheri in the city of Mumbai (Bombay) in western India comprise a chaitya, a number of viharas and cells. It is carved out of a solid black basalt rock. The largest cave at Mahakali (Cave 9) has seven depictions of the Buddha and figures from Buddhist mythology but all are mutilated.

Mahalakshmi Racecourse is actually an elite horse racing ground in Mumbai. This oval shaped ground is to be found in the Mahalakshmi area of India's commercial capital. Leased by the Bombay Municipal Corporation, Mahalakshmi Race Course is run by the Turf Club. Here, you can see most of the upper crust enjoying the horse races in their exclusive attires. The season for horse racing starts in November and goes on till February. However, the Derby that is held annually on the first Sunday in February becomes the most awaited event in the presence of city's landed gentry.

Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the most famous temples of Mumbai situated on Bhulabhai Desai Road. It is dedicated to goddess Mahalaxmi, Vishnu's consort. Built around 1785, the history of this temple is supposedly connected with the building of the Hornby Vellard. Apparently after portions of the sea wall of the Vellard collapsed twice, the chief engineer, a Pathare prabhu, dreamt of a Lakshmi statue in the sea near Worli. A search recovered it, and he built a temple for it. After this, the work on the vellard could be completed without a hitch.
